Why did Wüstenrot debut with a Green Pfandbrief at the end of November?

Wüstenrot Bausparkasse AG

The core of our business model is already geared towards sustainability through the financing of new properties with high energy efficiency standards and the financing of energy-efficient renovations and modernization projects. Within the company, we have been working on the “Sustainable refinancing at Wüstenrot Bausparkasse” project for almost a year and a half. Although the project work was completed by summer 2023, the primary market for Pfandbriefe was initially not receptive after the summer break. When a late issue window did open in November, we were able to successfully take advantage of this.

How and which green loans does Wüstenrot generate - are loans granted on an incentivized basis or is the introduction of incentivized loans planned?

The green product line has been launched on the market and offers taxonomy-compliant products to make climate-friendly living accessible to our customers. In particular, these are the green variants of the Klima Flex and Klima Classic residential loan financing models, which grant a discount of 10bp on terms compared to other financing if evidence is provided in accordance with the Taxonomy Regulation, e.g. an energy performance certificate, and the Klima Turbo residential loan for energy-efficient modernization with a discount of 21bp on conditions. In addition, we offer a climate bonus of up to EUR 300 for building society savings, as well as advice and brokerage of KfW loans as part of the BEG program (federal subsidy for efficient buildings).

Will Wüstenrot regularly tap the market for Green Pfandbriefe?

Frank Boetzer

Frank Boetzer

Wüstenrot Bausparkasse AG

Yes, due to our business model – the financing of predominantly residential real estate for new construction, purchase or modernization – we would like to regularly appear on the market with green issues. According to current plans, this is one Green Mortgage Pfandbrief per year in benchmark format.
